Tournaments : MAWO - Mid-Atlantic Wide Open - April 24th
Posted by black_udder on 2010/4/18 22:18:58 (779 reads)

So it's that time of the year again. Getting ready for the third Mid-Atlantic Wide Open.

This again, should be a full tournament with registration filling well before the deadline. The last two years of this event have been a tremendous success so make sure you don't miss out this year.

Some Changes, because of the NT event held in Charlotte on the same day.

For the Open division there will be very few Open players as the majority of our regions top pros will be in NC. This said, I am combining the Open and Open Masters divisions to hopefully make a single large group of open players. Hence, there will not be a Open Masters division offered, although, there will be a Grand Masters division.

This said, there will be the following divisions available:

Open Mens
Mens Grand Masters,
Open Women

Advanced Men,
Advanced Masters,
Advanced Women
Intermediate Men
Intermediate Women

Oh yeah...and everyone who registers will receive one ticket for the Basket raffle.

A player pack is a package that a Tourn. Director (a TD) will give to all the intermediate and advanced players in a tournament so that when they suck it up they still get to leave with something. Some may say that it makes you want to play in the tournament b/c in the pack will be things like a disc, a minnie, tee shirts, stickers, etc.

Jack C. is the man and throws over 500 feet are great to see. Seeing a 487 foot flat land ace at Newport News by Tyler Smith this weekend tops any 500 throw I've ever seen!

Go gettem Girl...Let everyone know about the basket raffle too.

We only have 16 spots left, so I am sure they will disappear fast in the next couple of days.

Tighten up Richmond. Don't let these spots go to the outa towners.

At STATES and am having a great time. Saw Jack Cooksey throw over 500 feet. Women's field off 21; men's field of 140... wonderfully crazy freestyling. disc sports are so cool. I'm passing the word about MAWO round these parts. Life is good, enjoy.

I agree the whole thing has been fun! Randy ....I have to admit you have done a lot of good things for disc golf in Richmond. You took up the ball and ran with it when no one else wanted or even tried. Kudos to you and kudos are earned! I hope your Event goes well and fills! The only thing is you and I agree to disagreed 95% of the time and that is ok. Makes things interesting! I am going to the coolest place to play in VA that weekend for about 1/2 the price and it will have a Masters division. Chris you are and always will be the "Godfather of Disc Golf" in the Richmond area. One day someone is going to make a statue of you and put it out on a course. The only thing is the birds are going to poop on it on a regular basis. You are still my hero and everyone else's too! Sorry to the rest of you our antics has made this thread fun to read for the past few days and created some interest I hope. Time for things to get back to normal.......boring! Good luck to all in the MAWO!

hilari-diculous...

in nova the open players are mad because there's a masters division http://dgcnv.manaze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1019&p=10115#p10115

in richmond a master is mad because there is no masters division.

personally i don't see what the pdga has to do with any of it. td's are (and should be) dictators, bonday is the dictator of the ODDS (i am merely the man behind the curtain )

Wow, this has gotten pretty out of hand guys. I have been to many tournaments that only one intermediate woman signed up and was made to compete in the advanced women's division due to lack of participants and I don't recall hearing much complaining. I'm sorry Jimmy but the way I see it, TD's do what they do for the good of the tournament. Sure, it might not be fair to the person that is forced to play with better players but it is what it is sometimes. Why complain? Usually complaining isn't going to change anything...just go with it. I know, nobody asked my opinon but you got it anyway. :)

I do what I do for you Jimmy. I just wanted you to file a complaint. Sadly there won't be any added rules at the EDGE League this year to keep you from playing. We need our bottom feeders.

This is so much fun! I need to thank Randy! He proved my point. the only reason he is not offering Masters is to make the Open pot richer. It also makes me feel really good that I inspire Chris. Every time I post anything; even on the PDGA board; I inspire him to keep his post count up! I inspired him so much this time he use colorful proper english! Kind of like McDonalds....."I'm Lovin It"

 Re: MAWO - Mid-Atlantic Wide Open - April 24th
Wow Jimmy! Are you noticing yet that you are the only one sharing your opinions?

Lets take a look at things. Last year at the MAWO there were 5 MPOs and 10 MPMs

The open guys got paid only two places because there were only 5 of them. The Masters guys got paid 5 spaces because there were 10 of them. Do you understand the Math? Now if the same number of players all play in one division, then there would be 15 and the result would be a 7 places pay out...same number of players, same amount of payout.

Now had this been the case last year, then the Masters winner Kelly Washburn, would have finished in 2nd to the Open winner Derek Britt by one stroke. And having done so, would have earned more $$ by finishing 2nd in the larger group, then he did by finishing 1st in the smaller group.

on down the line, third place and fourth place would have earned more cash in the large group then they did in the smaller groups.

 Re: MAWO - Mid-Atlantic Wide Open - April 24th
Yes TDs do this all the time! It is ok! Please tell me any reason not to have a division! You still have to total the same amount of score cards. More prizes to more people having all the divisions......more attractive event if more people has a chance to win. The only reason I can see is to make the Open more attractive to whatever is left over from the NT event. Why not make everyone play Open? The Open would be 3 to 5 times richer that way. You would not have to buy any plastic and don't have to worry with dividing the plastic up. I don't have a problem with the TDs doing whatever.......I do have a problem with the reason why this is being done. Most of the events in this area is now master driven anyway. So why delete the largest division.........sorry but Bulls@#$!

Jimmy, you missed the point. All TD's are dictators. When you run an event you can do whatever you want.

Run some events and show us.

Last year there were only 7 out of 10 ODDS events with a GM division. I never heard any of the GM's whine about it.

sort of a shame as it would be a great opportunity for masters players to get points towards odds without having to go out of town.

 Re: MAWO - Mid-Atlantic Wide Open - April 24th
The MAWO is going to be an ODDS event.

The Masters will not get any points because they do not get any points. None of them, Any of them, Zero. You don't gain, you don't loose, it's will be as if there isn't even a tournament. Don't sweat the points, they won't matter.

Again, there is not a masters anywhere in VA that will gain or loose points because of this tournament...it is a wash.

seriously, is MAWO part of ODDS? super duper river city.
It's a cool VA crew with whom to be associated; I'm sure a mutual agreement will be agreed upon. Focus on gathering sponsors for MID ATLANTIC WIDE OPEN. Support the March monthly at Gillies
Creek on Sunday, 3/14 hosted by Hunter & Thomas. Lots of CTPs and more Sun on Sunday.

The TD can decide which divisions he has to offer. Just man up and play open or play advance masters. In the fall when we play the master's only event at Hawk Hollow get yourself an Open player to caddie and laugh at him and tell him how much fun you are having.

No need to man up and play open...........just another event to skip. Beside there are other events that do not require pre-resistration, that will offer Masters and probably be less money!

This a PDGA event.......right? If it is then I thought you had to offer divisons if there were 3 or more enterants wanting to play in a divison. Or can a TD change the rules to whatever he/she wants?

The MAWO made the new list of ODDS events. Will the entry fee go up in order to pay the ODDS fees?
